DAG awarded RADF grant for local project
Dala Artists Group (DAG) was recently awarded a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grant for providing a series of professional development workshops and networking opportunities for visual artists of the Upper Mary River region.
The project will build community and cultural capacity by providing a program of monthly visual arts workshops to regionally isolated artists to address skill deficiencies identified by the group.
The program consists of 3 professional development workshops presented by high profile local artists Janna Pameijer (sculpture), Colin Beard (photography) and Pat Cale (painting, mixed media). In addition four group members will present skills development workshops to their peers. This will serve the dual purpose of upskilling members while training presenters in the design, preparation and delivery of workshops.
By skilling our local professional artists to higher levels while also training them to share their talents the broader community will be able to deepen their engagement in the arts. Dala members will also build ecconomic capacity.
The project will provide networking opportunities, peer support, skills and professional development for regionally isolated artists, to drive their arts practice to higher standards with more economic sustainability.
This project includes an element of peer workshop presentation which is a training tool to encourage members to present future workshops to the wider community. This will enable more community access to the arts resulting in the improvement of their quality of life. It will also give artists the opportunity to work collaboratively in the future while increasing their financial viability.
The workshops will upskill local artists while encouraging experimentation in other artforms resulting in cross fertilisation of ideas and new innovative art works while at the same time promoting our area as an arts hub and tourist destination.
